As a native 'Melthamer' it is with great pride that I take up the post of Chairman of Meltham Town Council for the civic year of 2008/2009.
The recent past has seen many improvements with regard to facilities that benefit Meltham residents, particularly the Sports and Community Centre, which is acknowledged as one of the best in our region.
The Robert Ashton Memorial Park is in its best condition for many years and it is your council’s intention to maintain its present standard.
There are many voluntary bodies active in Meltham and the recent success of the newly formed Over 60’s Club is just one of the ways that ‘Melthamers’ are well served by volunteers.
I would also like to mention the Crossroads Charity run by Churches Together which must surely be one of the very best of its kind in the country.
My chosen charity during my Civic Year is the Forget-me-Not Trust and I continue to work closely with the Meltham Support Group.
Meltham Town Council aspires to achieve Quality Council status and when appropriate criteria have been met this should happen in the near future.
I feel fortunate to live in a community where so many are prepared to give their time and efforts to benefit both young and old.
My wife, Patricia, and I look forward to representing Meltham during my Civic Year.”
