Michelle Moran
“I’ve known Michelle the Lollypop Lady for a number of years, she is professional and safety conscious in her job, helping hundreds of children safely across the road to Meltham C of E school.
What ever the weather rain or shine, Michelle always has a smile and a wave. She deserves to be recognised for the dedication she has for the safety of the children of Meltham”.
Terry Lyons
“Terry has provided service to our community over many years as an initiating and forward thinking councillor. He has gone beyond the call of duty to assist numerous residents besides helping to also improve our environment and community health.
Terry was a Meltham Town Councillor for 44 years and served as Meltham’s first Town Mayor for the township, additionally he was also a Kirklees Councillor between 2004 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2022, serving the Holme Valley North ward and being the first Independent councillor to represent our ward. He was often available to meet residents, question officers and generally seeking improvement in the ward.
Moreover, he was and still is a regular attendee at the weekly coffee mornings in the Parish Hall, available to meet and discuss local issues and problems with local residents to add to his caseload. A true record of achievements, dedicated service and commitment.
Terry believes in serving our community including our youths. As an example he was successful in gaining a youth shelter in the Robert Ashton Memorial Park, which included their input towards it’s planning.
Furthermore he worked with the late Melvyn Gibson in both the creating of the Meltham Broadlands Rec’s skate park and the Meltham Greenway improvement to the path and tree works that were carried out.
He and his wife Christine with others were also heavily involved in creating Meltham’s running club, Meltham AC and was made Life President of the club.
He created two races that were televised on more than one occasion by the BBC and YTV. Furthermore KMC saw fit to name the new development at the bottom of the road used for the races, Mile End.
His crowning glory was to appear on the BBC’s Record Breakers with Roy Castle, both to recognise his time and victories in the race. After achieving 8 victories, he retired and encouraged/trained local firefighter Dave Jones to successfully compete in the event, Dave not only won the event 5 times he broke Terry’s record time with 4 minutes and 6 seconds, which is still unbeaten for 25 years. Additionally he also trained a Huddersfield Police Inspector, Phil Ounsley to win the race.
Terry’s record of service to the community is second to none, being a caring man who has given many unselfish years of service to our area, particularly in his family based home in Meltham.”
