Meltham Town Council has formally resumed its role as the sole trustee of Meltham Broadlands Recreation Ground, marking an important milestone in the stewardship and future development of one of the town’s most valued community assets.
The return to sole trusteeship reflects the Council’s commitment to ensuring that Broadlands Recreation Ground continues to be managed in the best interests of local residents, community groups, and future generations.
Broadlands Recreation Ground has long served as a central hub for recreation, leisure, and community activities in Meltham. Providing open green space for sport, exercise, family activities, and community events, the site plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of residents and contributes significantly to the character of the town.
As sole trustee, Meltham Town Council will have direct responsibility for overseeing the management, maintenance, and long-term strategic direction of the recreation ground. This arrangement will enable clearer governance and support decision-making that is focused on preserving and enhancing the facility for the benefit of the local community.
The Council recognises the importance of Broadlands Recreation Ground as a cherished public space and is committed to ensuring that it remains accessible, welcoming, and well maintained. Future priorities will include safeguarding the site’s recreational value, supporting community use, and exploring opportunities for improvements that meet the needs of residents.
Councillors have welcomed the return to sole trusteeship, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen the Council’s role in protecting community assets and ensuring that local voices remain at the heart of decisions affecting the recreation ground.
A spokesperson for Meltham Town Council said:
“Broadlands Recreation Ground is an important community asset that has served generations of Meltham residents. Becoming sole trustee once again provides the Council with a clear responsibility to protect and manage this valued space on behalf of the community. We look forward to continuing our work to maintain and enhance the recreation ground for everyone who lives in and visits Meltham.”
The Council would also like to thank all those who have supported the recreation ground over the years, including volunteers, community organisations, and local residents whose dedication has helped ensure Broadlands remains a valued part of community life.
Meltham Town Council looks forward to working with users of the recreation ground and the wider community to build on its strengths and secure a positive future for Broadlands Recreation Ground for years to come.
