Michael Hall

The Council decided to award Michael with the Council’s Pride of Meltham Award for his long-term commitment to the Meltham and Meltham Mills Band in a number of roles and his contribution to events in Meltham and improving the environment of the local area. For the past few years Michael has served as contest secretary and also the Chair of the Friends groups that supports the Band. Michael said ‘I am just a very small part of this great organisation which has been part of our village for 173 Years’.
Jean Burhouse

Jean was awarded the Pride of Meltham Award for her work with a number of local charities and international humanitarian projects together with her wonderful altruism. In Meltham Jean contributes to the Crossroads project and was the project officer from the beginning in 1996 until she officially retired from the role in 2017. Jean said ‘working with the Crossroads has given me a tremendous sense of satisfaction and also immense admiration for the effort and time given by all the volunteers who are working so well together to serve our community’.
Mandy Taylor

The Council was delighted to award Mandy with her award for her work in delivering aid to European countries still suffering from the consequences of war. Mandy’s family run transport business moved to Meltham Mills in 2000 followed by her family in 2002. Mandy and her business try to be proactive within the community and play a part in many organisations such as Operation Christmas Child, Crisis – St James’s Church and Meltham Food Bank to name but a few. Mandy said ‘we are only a little piece of this amazing community of which we are proud to be associated with’.
Jill Horsman

Jill was given the Award for her fundraising and community work. Jill and her husband arrived in Meltham in the early 1970s with their two young children to run a grocery shop which they did for 40 years. Amongst other things Jill is involved with the community card group making cards to sell, with the profits all going to the Welcome Centre to buy food for the homeless and Operation Children’s Christmas Boxes, helping pack the boxes in November and raising funds all year round. Jill said’ the things I do have helped me as much as the help I give and I enjoy doing it too’.
