On the 25th of April the Council held their Annual Civic Dinner, we were honoured to have 82 in attendance made up of dignitaries, award winners and guests of our Mayor David Haigh.
The purpose of the event is to celebrate Meltham, the people and organisations who contribute so much during the year to make Meltham such a special place.
Also at the Civic Dinner, the annual Pride of Meltham Awards are held, these recognise people and organisations in the local community for their outstanding achievements in all walks of life. This year’s awards were presented to Michelle Moran, a lollypop lady whose service and dedication to the safety of the school children outside Meltham C of E has been impeccable for over 20 years and to Terry Lyons, a former councillor dedicated to the service of Meltham residents since 1979, who was also an accomplished runner, creating two races which were televised on the BBC and YTV and also appeared with Roy Castle on Record Breakers where his running achievements were recognised.
There is also a charity raffle held which raised funds for the two Mayor’s charities that he has chosen for the year. With prize contributions from local businesses and individuals we have raised £635.00, we also raised a further £280.00 from donations at the Civic Service back in September, this will be split equally between the Scouts & Guides and the British Liver Foundation. To add to the money already raised, there will be a collection box on the free bus service that will be operating around Meltham for the VE themed Scarecrow Festival.
