
Meet your new Town Mayor for 2025/26.
At the Annual Town Meeting on Monday the 19th of May, the outgoing Mayor, Cllr David Haigh handed over the chains to Cllr Ann Jurczyszyn.
Ann and the Town Council thanked David for his service during an interesting and eventful year. David has carried out a number of civic and community engagements which included amongst others, attending the King’s Award for Voluntary Service to The Crossroads Project, the launch of the Community Quilt, Meltham Fringe events for the Art Week Festival, the opening of a local vineyard and much more.
As a driver of the community bus, he also entertained passengers with a Christmas Karaoke, hopefully this will be a regular event”
Ann is a former nursery nurse and worked for Tameside Social Services. Ann is a ‘comer-inner’, she moved to Meltham with her husband Chesh in 2000 and became a volunteer walk leader, helping to establish Meltham as a Walkers are Welcome Town. She has since become a trustee and volunteer of the Carlile Institute and also volunteers in the Meltham Pleasure Grounds, Meltham Greenway and helps organise the popular Light Up The Pleasure Grounds event, Meltham Community Day, Beer Festival and the Meltham Community Quilt and Flower Bomb projects.
Ann has been a member of Meltham Town Council since 2022 and is looking forward to her year as Mayor, continuing to support the Council with interesting initiatives planned for the forthcoming year.
She said “The current members of the Council are an enthusiastic team and committed to helping community groups and projects, such as the ongoing development of Robert Ashton Memorial Park. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the fabulous Meltham community.”
