Meet your New Town Mayor for the 2024/25 municipal year!
After two fantastic years, Monday evening brought the end of Cllr Richard Noon’s time as Town Mayor, when he officially handed over the chains to Cllr David Haigh.
During the Annual Meeting, David & the Full Town Council thanked the former Mayor for his service, his enthusiasm and leadership. Cllr Haigh went on to note the long list of contributions Cllr Richard Noon has made during his time as Mayor, which includes many successful projects delivered for the benefit of Meltham. Cllr Richard Noon’s achievements will be hard to beat, but his passion and dedication for our Town continues as he remains an independent Town Councillor, and a valuable asset to our community.
David is a retired teacher and school leader, who is still involved in education. He is a serving magistrate, and you may also see him around as he drives the local Meltham 933 service bus. David is married to Mary, and has been a resident of Meltham all of his life.
David returns as Town Mayor for a second period of office since returning to the Town Council in 2015, where he has also acted as chair of the finance committee. David previously served the council back in 1979-1995 too, before the council changed its name from Parish to Town Council.
When speaking with David he described how he wants to continue improvements to the Township, and he looks forward to speaking with Meltham residents, businesses and community groups. He goes on to comment –
‘The recent work on youth provision plus the refurbishment of the play area in our park are key provisions for our village, we will need to keep a watchful eye on how the troubles at Kirklees Council may impact on our Town and if needs be step in to provide other services lost, to this end the councils focus on the needs of the Broadlands recreation ground are central together with the further development of the park and further partnership with other community groups’.
Look out for your new Town Mayor David Haigh, and feel free to stop and say Hello!
